Halloween & Christmas

Yes I know the two don’t really go together but that is what is on my mind today so here it is.

I really am not a big Halloween person but Cindy (my mate and boss) is. She thinks any excuse for adults to act like childrens seems like fun, possibly she is right.

I couldn’t go to the big Halloween crop tonight because I have the boys but I popped into the sale with the boys in costume (batman, spiderman and a pirate) and had their photos done..it was all a bit of fun and the photos are great.

We had a lazy day after that just hanging about and watching Mary Poppins. I went into my scrap room and tried to start packing up some stuff for me to scrap with over the coming months when my room is out of action. Instead I got sidetracked as I found some goodies I had forgotten about. My Xyron 250, some cool Clear swirly stamps and lots of bits and bobs…I am going to have to clear it out a lot this week so hopefully I will have more luck on my next attempt.

And Christmas I said…yes indeed I did.  I am flying to Adelaide to spend Xmas with Mum and Dad while the boys are with their Dad but Sue & Yo and the kids are coming down to Melbourne so I have arranged to have Christmas here with them on the 29th. Its a small thing to many but I’m happy and so are the kids.

So now onto my 50 by 50 list….

I’m working on #2 as you know (and am no doubts sick of hearing about)…as a result of that am now also working on #8 declutter the scraproom. I thought I’d throw in another attempt at #12 update my blog daily for a month  – perhaps I will have more time as I won’t be doing stampin’ Up anymore (more on that tomorrow when I am officially not a demo anymore).  So with all the christmas going’s on I think I’m gunna try to do #41 handmake cards and get them out on time, #42 take the kids to carols by candlelight & #47 decorate the whole room for Christmas not just the tree…so who knows I might just manage to cross off as many as 6 by Christmas! Wish me luck!

oh and kids Dad is getting married tomorrow. Kids are going to ride in the Limo with Bev (the Bride) to the wedding, I’m picking them up around 9 from the reception.  Congrats to Steve and Bev, I think they are going to be very happy together which can only be good for the boys.

kitchen update

I should be able to cross off #2 by the end of the year at long long last!

Brad, my project manager (doesn’t that sound cool), came to measure up my kitchen this morning at 5 past 8. I had warned him that my house was likely to be complete bedlam at that hour of the morning but he said it was ok (having cancelled on me due to car problems on Monday).  Well the boys were ready for school before 8 and Owen’s new DS (birthday present from the best Mum in the world) kept them quiet – yes really – for ages.

So conclusion so far….sourcing a different option for a splashback as the ikea fastbo stuff is no good behind cooktops so really that is crap! He waws happy to look into the ceramalite stuff that I planned to use when I planned this originally and I will get a quote on a tiled splashback too.

He suggested changing one draw (under sink which i plan to put a bin in) to a cupboard as it sometimes causes hassles with water pipes etc so that is cool hell its only a bin!  Other than that we are good to go except I need to rip out old kitchen and put up some plaster where there is none for some reason.  He actually said not to do the floors before the new one goes in as they might get scratched in the process and that the plinth can be just clipped on so it can be removed to seal the floors under the cupboards later which makes the changeover from old to new kitchen much easier.

I will have a proper quote for install (less sparky and plumber and splashback) on Monday with an edited shopping list to go to IKEA with.

Am going to go buy my kitchen ON my birthday YAY Happy Birthday me have a new kitchen!

This week I need to make room in my scrap room for kitchen and appliances as they will need to be stored in there for about a month. Install will go ahead early to mid December.

woohooo!

this time four years ago….

I was in hospital waiting for the arrival of the newest member of our family.  Little tiny Corey James joined me at ten past 2 in the morning.  I took him to Paperific the next day. Lots of people said that I was crazy but then I was well after an easy delivery and he was never going to be so well behaved again!

Little did I know that he would grow up to be a terror…a sweet, smiling, laughing little monster full of cuddles, full of love.

I got a letter yesterday about his kinder orientation day and it falls on a day I am working.  I could get someone to fill in but at the moment I need every bit of dosh I can get to make sure the kitchen plans go ahead. I rang the kinder to talk it through…dunno why…I just didn’t want him to miss out on anything. Kinder have known him since he was a baby bump and have seen him a couple of times this year too. They just said that ‘knowing him as we do, he won’t know he has missed anything and he’ll be fine’….guess I knew that…funny how we need to hear it from someone else though isn’t it.

His family daycarer threw a little party for him at daycare today…they had party pies and fairy bread and he even came home with a new toy car and some play doh. Tomorrow he’ll get some lego and some more cars and a day at home with Mummy. Hope he is happy ….know he will be…he is oh so easily pleased.

Love my boys!

trying to catch a breathe…

My boys are growing up too fast.  Owen will be 8 on Friday, my baby will be 4 on Wednesday.

The party is organised, the presents bought….but how do we, as parents, learn to enjoy them getting older?

Owen is just starting to link from Joey’s to Cubs, he is excited…a little nervous…his comment was that they were loud..yes I know my boys are loud but the cubs apparenlty are louder (well there are more of them too).

Brett is preparing to go to Joey scout camp and I hadn’t realised that, for him, it is his first ever night away from both Mum and Dad..I guess that with him going to Dads every second weekend I am used to him being away from me but he still hasn’t been out on his own either.

Corey is my baby. And yet my baby goes to bed in undies and is dry every night (a step ahead of his older brothers), he wrote his name the other day, naming the letters as he went and they were legible. He can cut with scissors, he could talk the hind leg off a donkey. The kid is outgoing and full of cuddles and kisses, just the right mixture of cute and mischief and I want to keep him 3 forever….he just wants to grow up and be ‘big like Owen’

I figure that as a Mum it appears to be my job to try to walk a tightrope of balance between encouraging them to explore the world around them and yet still be there to catch them if they fall….to know when to hold their hand and when to let go.

They went to Animal Land in diggers rest today (the two big ones) with Joey scouts…they had a ball, riding a pony, a tractor and holding baby rabbits and chickens and ducks. Owen now wants to live on a farm!

before i get completely incoherant I’m off to bed!

night all!

Two weeks…

what can happen in two weeks hey?  Well since I lost posted we survived the 9hr drive to Adelaide and the return trip and it was great to see everyone again.   And in that two weeks we finally hit the jackpot with Corey. #2’s in the toilet yay! And as a bonus he has been dry at night for weeks so has been sleeping in undies (and waking dry) for 3 days now (the other boys are still in pull ups at night).  Two short weeks and yet so full!

And now…2 weeks from now my baby will be FOUR!  Yes my little Corey James will really be a big boy!

and just  2 days later Owen will be 8….how time flies!
